With all of the crime that is covered by the newspaper, television and social media, you need to lookout no matter where you live. National Safe at Home week is August 22nd-26th so why not take some time to make sure that you and your apartment are safe.  There are many different sites and articles that give you tips on how to be safe, so I have put together some of the best tips that will help you sleep much better at night.

Make sure to always lock your doors and windows

One of, if not the most important tip is to always lock your door. If you are leaving the apartment, that’s common sense that you should lock your door, but most people make a mistake and leave it open when they are inside or run to the mailbox or the laundry room, which can be costly.

Another great tip is to always be aware of your surroundings. When you park your car, make sure it is in a well lit area and while you are walking inside the complex, make sure you are paying attention to things around you. Some other tips include keeping all windows locked, keeping a broom handle in the sliding door, checking the batteries of the smoke detectors, getting to know your neighbors and much more.
